Short Vita

Prof. Dr. Ing. Theo Kanter received his MSc in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Advanced Technology, the Netherlands in 1976. He completed studies in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Technology in Linköping in Sweden (1986, 1987). Theo Kanter earned a technical doctorate in Computer Communications from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden in 2001. During his career, Theo has held a number of leading positions in telecommunications research. Between 1999 and 2007, Theo was a senior scientist at Ericsson Research in the area of Service Layer Technologies focusing on Adaptive Mobile Services and Mobile Presence and guest researcher with the Wireless Center at KTH. In 2007, Theo was appointed full Professor of Computer Science in Distributed Systems at the Mid Sweden University. In 2012, he joined the Department of Computer and System Sciences (DSV) within Stockholm University as Unit Director. Theo Kanter is the initiator and leader of a research group focused on Immersive Networking and in international research networks pivotal to the formation of new EU projects, building upon the strengths of national and international collaboration concerning Smart Cities and leveraging ICT to enable Smart Societies. Theo Kanter’s research interests concern methods for the distributed sharing and utilizing context from sensor and user information in heterogeneous networks to enable distributed, adaptive and context‐aware mobile services.
